Welcome to the Blog!

Some of you may be familiar with how blogging works, while some of you may not. Thus, in order to help everyone get acclimated to the class blog, let's start with something simple: tell me how to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.  See, I told you it was simple...the point here is just for you to get comforatable with the process of responding to posts here on the class blog.  The title of this post (and every other post you write in this class) should be your first and last name, followed by your class period. For example - "John Smith, 1st hour."

      Interviewing: Mom

Q: Where were you and what were you doing when you found out about the terroist attacks?

A: I was in the kitchen, and I think that you and I were trying to make a snack.

      Q: How did you feel?

A: I didn’t fully understand. I didn’t exactly know what the Worlds Trade Center was and so I was confused on how a plane could fly into it. Dad called me and told to watch and listen to the news, and as I was watching, I was just extremely confused about the whole thing.

Q: What was your immediate reaction?

A: I was just confused about it all

Q: Is there anything else that stands out to you in particular about that day?

A: Well, I was pregnant with Shilo (my younger sister) and I was taking you for a walk, and a neighbor stopped and talked to me about it. I remember how strange it was to see people reaching out to others. Even if they didn’t know them, they still felt the need to talk to someone. I remember feeling worried for your sake, because when I was growing up nothing like this never happened, and now this will be a part of your life forever.

Q: In what ways do you think that America, and the world for that matter, has changed in the past 12 years?

A: No one had ever thought about an attack before this happened, because we are the USA and no one attacks us! And now it’s just a part of our everyday life. It’s something we think about all the time, and I don’t think that we should have to live like this.

      Interviewee: Lori Mathes

Q: Where were you and what were were you doing when you found out about the terrorist attacks?
A: I had just got back in the car after doping you off at your babysitters house. Then I turned on the radio and heard the radio announcers announce that the terrorist attacks had happened. I pulled over and then began to cry, while I called everyone I loved and told them how much I loved them because I thought that “this is just the beginning.”

Q: Where were you and what were were you doing when you found out about the terrorist attacks?
A: I felt very nervous and overwhelmed with sadness and fearfulness about what the future would bring.

Q: What was your immediate reaction?
A: My immediate reaction was fear for my life and the others I loved.

Q: Is there anything else in particular about the day that stands out or that you can remember?
A: I remember extensive, up to date media coverage. The media was covering this for days after the attacks had happened.

Q: In what ways do you think that America, and the World for that matter, has changed in the past 12 years as a result?
A: Security has defiantly been elevated. For example, airport security is more thorough and fewer items are allowed to be transported on the plane. Although time has passed, the events of 9/11 will never leave my mind and I believe others would feel the same way.

      Q: How did you feel?

A: My dad said he was in shock and denial and could not believe what was happening. He couldn't quite get ahold of the idea that someone would steal a plane and fly it into a building full of innocent people and have that much hatred for The United States.

      Interviewing my Father

Uhhh it was my day off and i came downstairs and CNN came on. Only one plane had hit and i watched the second plane hit. Me and you mother were both off that day.

When it happened i was scared.

I thought we were going to war.

I remember just driving around buying up what we could for extra food and looking at buying a gun and watching the news.

I think right after words the country was united and strong and a better country. But, since then i think weve lost our minds and are too "politically correct" and too much petty bickering.

      Interviewing-My Mom, Theresa Manzelli

Q: Where were you, and what were you doing at the time of the terrorist attacks?

A: I was at work, when the towers fell. I heard about it in the car on the way to work. When I got into work, a co-worker of mine told me that a plane had hit the world trade center. My co-workers and I watched it on the T.V. in the kitchen at work.

      Q: How did you feel?

A: I was sad, of course, because of the individuals that died, and the people that must have been affected by it. I was also angry, because of the audacity of the terrorists, like "How dare you?!". I cried when it happened.

Q: What was your immediate reaction?

A: I was utterly shocked. I couldn't believe it was really happening. Afterwards, I couldn't sleep, and I was glued to the T.V.

Q: Is there anything that stands out about that day that you remember?

A: The bonding that the tragic event brought to our country. And how we all came together because of it.

Q: In what ways do you think America has changed since 9/11?

A: The country is more cautious. People realized that people can just be taken from you, just like that. Americans now probably realize how quickly life can change.

      9/11 Q&A

      • Where were you and what were you doing when you found out about the terrorist attacks?

“Well, on that day I was off of work so I was at home playing with you and watching channel 9.[so the children educational shows were on] Sometime around noon your Aunt Zandra called and told me to turn on the news. I had no idea what was going on. I called your dad as soon as I switched channels.”

      • How did you feel?

“I was so scared and worried about what happened to our country.”

      • What was your immediate reaction?

“I freaked out wondering what the heck was going on in our world.”

      • Is there anything else in particular about that day that stands out or that you can remember?

“I am pretty sure the show that we had been watching was Caillou.”

      • In what ways do you think America, or the World for that matter, has changed in the past 12 years as a result?

“Um, everything has changed. I mean I remember giving your Papa a set of Three Stooges golf club covers that talked from the airport because you could get right through airport security to go shop in the airport malls and shops. You used to be able to go and pick people from their gates to take them home. All security has been heightened like the clear bags you have to take to Rams games. Also, I am always scared because we live so close to that mapping agency. If anyone were to ever bomb the center of the United States were in grave danger. Plus, it’s always I your head at big events such as Cardinal games or the marathon in Boston. Also, the next June lots of babies were born due to people clinging to their spouses and families during that time.”

    Interviewee: Julie Hurley (mother)

Q- Where were you and what were you doing when you found out about the terrorist attack?

A- I was on highway 55 north driving to work.

    Q-How did you feel?

A-I felt scared and vulnerable. And, sad. Really, really sad, for those people in those buildings.

Q- What was your immediate reaction?

A- I went to work and left the radio on all day. But, I wanted to pick you and Baylee, (sister), and go home.

Q- Is there anything else in particular about the day that stands out or that you can remember?

A- For me, no. But for David, (stepfather), he was on a golf course in St.Louis talking to Tiger Woods about it, and Tiger asked him what was going on, and David said, “I don’t know. I think a plane just flew into the World Trade Center.” And within about 45 minutes, he course was deserted.

A- Well, there is much tighter security at airports, sporting events, and schools. I think people are more aware of their surroundings. I think people are more appreciative of their loved ones and to live in this country.

9/11 Attack Feelings and Thoughts of My Dad
My father was in Hong Kong visiting with a friend from Sri Lanka when he had first heard the news on television. The shocking enclosure of the 9/11 terrorist attack had taken him back from sorrow to pure anger of knowing just a few people could harm a large amount of innocence in one day. Though shocked and angered my father had felt one more emotion no one could ever explain, “Pain”. What he saw were people falling off the building and people gasping for as much air as possible trying, fighting even just so they wouldn’t feel the cold hand of death rubbing their shoulders. He had known for some Death had won each innocent soul that fell or inhaled too much of the smoke, but my father had hope for each of the lives that were saved by the firefighters or police officers. Though hindering his faith for humanity at the time, my father had seen each new hero step out of that building with survivors lying on their shoulders. My father knows that the biggest remaining feeling among most people is the fear of another attack from terrorists at any given moment.
